Help Prevent a Dietitian Association Monopoly in Illinois

The Alliance for Natural Health USA and our consumer, practitioner, physician and business members in Illinois believe the public health is best served and medical costs are lowered when consumers have access to a variety of quality nutrition care providers.

SB. 2936 would do the exact opposite; restrict health choice for consumers while harming public health and the economy in Illinois.

I am writing to voice my opposition to SB.2936 The Dietitian Nutritionist Practice Act as it is currently written.  I am hopeful that common ground can be reached through conversations with Alliance for Natural Health USA representatives in Illinois.

My greatest concern is the fact that this bill strengthens the current monopoly in Illinois on nutrition services for dietitians, denying consumers access to expert advice from nutritionists, some of the most highly educated and well-respected professionals in the field of nutrition.

SB.2936 as currently written would also:

Eliminate choice. Consumers have a right to choose a nutrition advisor from a range of training backgrounds and philosophies; SB 2936 dictates that residents of Illinois receive advice from members of a specific professional association.

Suppress job creation. Thousands of jobs would be driven out of Illinois.  Nutrition is vitally important to the health of Illinois, and a tremendous source of job growth in counseling, retail sales, training, agriculture, and manufacturing. SB 2936 creates a hostile environment for business and discourages entrepreneurship in Illinois

I urge you to thoughtfully review SB. 2936 with these points in mind to help create a level playing field.  We are hopeful language can be reached that would ensure the health and safety of Illinois residents by increasing access to nutrition professionals
