There is a common thread between the
Columbine High School shooters, spree shootings at a community center in Los
Angeles, two brokerage firms in Atlanta, and a printing plant in Kentucky: SSRI
antidepressants. Every one of those shootings was perpetrated by people taking
Prozac, Zoloft, Luvox, Paxil, or a related antidepressant drug.
FDA-approved SSRI drugs currently contain
a black box notice warning that the drug may cause young people to want to kill
themselves, especially in the first few months of treatment. We believe that
the black box warnings need to be expanded to include the risk of psychotic
breaks and violence against other people. There is also a great risk of antidepressant-induced
suicide, violence, and mania among our military personnel.
Please ask Dr. Margaret Hamburg, the FDA Commissioner, to
expand the current black box warnings to include violence against others.
