Utilities across Virginia are moving forward with the installation of wireless smart meters. These smart meters emit pulsed radio frequency radiation that, according to many reports, can damage people’s health and leave residents’ meters vulnerable to malicious attacks from hackers.

The Virginia state legislature is considering SB797, a bill that would prohibit electric utility companies from installing a smart meter on a customer’s premises—or requiring a customer to use any advanced meter—unless the customer has requested it.
