Repeal the Ban On Incandescent Bulbs

The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA) mandates the phase-out of incandescent light bulbs in favor of compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs by 2014. But CFL bulbs contain mercury and emit levels of ultraviolet radiation so high that they can actually burn skin and skin cells and could cause skin cancer in its deadliest form—melanoma.

Broken bulbs also pose a significant danger, releasing mercury vapor in concentrations 8,000 times the amount that a child should receive. The bulbs also contain other cancer-causing chemicals.

EISA will effectively eliminate 40-, 60-, 75-, and 100-watt incandescent bulbs. Please contact your legislators immediately and call for a repeal of the ban on incandescent lights.
