Tell USDA that Nanotechnology Has No Place in Organic Foods!

Nanotechnology, the process of manipulating matter at the atomic and molecular level, has no place in organic food. Like genetic modification, it is the antithesis of the organic concept. Mounting scientific evidence indicates that nanomaterials have the potential to harm DNA and damage organs.  See our full story here.

Nanotechnology has no place in organic food.

Dear Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack,

I know that the U.S. Department of Agriculture is hearing from large food companies supporting the use of nanotechnology in food production. As an individual consumer and voter, I am writing to express my strong opposition to the use of nanotechnology in the production of organic foods.

Like genetic modification, nanotechnology is the antithesis of the organic concept. Mounting scientific evidence indicates that nanomaterials have the potential to harm DNA and damage organs.

The safety of nanotechnology has not been established. There are serious concerns about its safety. Foods incorporating nanotechnology should be labeled. And above all, organic foods must remain truly organic.

It is essential that the United States Department of Agriculture's National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) institute an official ban on nanotechnology in organics and that such a ban be vigorously enforced.

Sincerely,
