Autism Hero Walk - Detroit - 2024

Team Charles

Thank you for visiting Team Charles! As some of you may know, Charles was diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder)  at age 3. We have been on this journey with him and will continue to bring awareness and inclusion to the Autism community.

If you don’t know our son, here is a little about him:)  Charles brightens every day with his smile and unconditional love. If you’re lucky you might hear him say “ Huggy” and he’ll want a hug or a squeeze. This helps him regulate his body. Throughout the day you will see him flap his arms or clap his hands with excitement (stimming). He loves Encanto, and hearing music or watching people play instruments. He loves to be silly with his sister Claire. You can find him playing with her under his blanket or laying with her watching their favorite shows.

Charles is getting stronger and better at communicating through the help of OT, PT, Speech and ABA. He’s saying words like train, hummus, mama, away. We know what our son wants through his own language. He is starting to use an AAC device to help others understand what he is thinking and/or his needs.

He has a calm, genuine demeanor. He has a sixth sense and knows when something is wrong or that someone may need a hug or a smile. He has an innocence that he will probably never lose. Charles is pure JOY!
