Poland: A Sea of Red

In 1947, the communist government in Warsaw, Poland decided to build a new city near Kracow. The city would be called Nowa Huta, and it would be the first city in the Soviet Union without God. The social experiment failed. The people soon realized that the religious aspect of their life, which was being withheld from them, suddenly became precious. So began the struggle between the people and the Communist government for the soul of the city.

With expert interviews and witnesses of those who participated in the dramatic struggle, the 28 minute documentary “A Sea of Red” captures the events that lie behind not only the battle to build a Church in a "city without God" but also reflects the larger effort of the Polish people to throw off the suffocating mantle of communism.
