Sister Bakhita- Song of Freedom

The year is 1870 and a young Sudanese girl is kidnapped and sold into slavery. For a greater part of her young life, Bakhita (or the "lucky One" in Arabic) serves as a slave, first to merchants and military and later to an Italian consul. The 30 minute docu-drama recounts the life story of Sr. Bakhita, her early childhood and slavery, ritual branding as a slave, after 20 years her eventual freedom in Italy, and later the decision of the young woman to dedicate her life to God (becoming a Cannosian sister) and finally her canonisation as the first Sudanese saint of the Catholic Church.
