Dear [Decision Maker],
Thank you.As your constituent and a volunteer with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, I am writing to thank you for voting to increase funding for cancer research in the recent Continuing Resolution, and ask that you make funding for cancer research a top priority in 2017 as well.
We are all One Degree from cancer in that we all know someone who has been impacted by this disease. I am very grateful that Congress included funding from the 21st Century Cures Act in its most recent spending bill. However, overall funding for the National Institutes of Health is still flat at last year's spending level. In order to continue the progress being made it is essential that researchers and scientists have the resources they need to discover more breakthroughs in the understanding and treatment of cancers.
As Congress begins its work this year, I am asking for you to support an increase in funding for the NIH and National Cancer Institute in a final FY 2017 appropriations bill. This funding is essential to the development of new tools and treatments for cancer patients across the country.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP][Your Email]
