State of Tobacco Control 2014 Indiana

The American Lung Association’s State of Tobacco Control 2014 report makes it clear: Indiana has low taxes on tobacco products, and is leaving money on the table that could be used to keep our kids from starting to use tobacco products and help current tobacco users quit.

This year, Indiana received a C for smokefree air, F for tobacco control program funding, D for cigarette taxes, and F for coverage of treatments to help quit tobacco use. Indiana has one of the lower tobacco taxes in the U.S. and again failed to increase it in 2012. With tight budgets in many states, money from these taxes is being left on the table that can and must fund vital, lifesaving programs to prevent kids from starting and help tobacco users quit.

Please ask Governor Pence and the Indiana legislature to raise taxes on tobacco products by at least $1.00 to help protect our kids from a lifetime of tobacco addiction and disease.
