Unfortunately, a significant number of youth in Oklahoma are trying electronic cigarettes. Research shows that youth who are exposed to tobacco are more likely to become regular tobacco users, and public health officials are concerned the same will be true of e-cigarettes and vapor products. Oklahoma has no state law prohibiting the sale of e-cigarettes and vapor products to youth, unlike laws that restrict youth access to other tobacco products.
The American Lung Association is very concerned about the potential safety and health consequences of electronic cigarettes for Oklahoma youth, however, SB1602 and SB1892 advances the tobacco industry agenda by creating a new category for e-cigarettes and other new nicotine products such as: snus, dip, snuff, orbs, sticks, and gels. Doing this would exempt them from existing tobacco laws that are known to protect Oklahoma kids.
Lawmakers need to hear from you! Tell your representative not to be fooled. Vote NO on SB1602 and SB1892. It will do more harm than good.
