Speak Up for Tobacco 21 Nationwide!

Congress will soon consider bills that would increase the minimum age of sale for tobacco products to 21. We need your help in contacting your representatives in Washington to ask them to cosponsor these bills once they are introduced.

Why does the American Lung Association support raising the minimum age of sale for tobacco to 21? Because it will reduce youth smoking and save lives. In fact, a 2015 National Academy of Medicine report found increasing the tobacco sales age to 21 nationwide could prevent 223,000 deaths among people born between 2000 and 2019.

Increasing the minimum sales age to 21 is also popular with the public. According to a 2015 study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, 3 out of 4 American adults—including 7 in 10 cigarette smokers—favor raising the minimum age of sale for all tobacco products to 21.

Hawaii, California, the District of Columbia and over 200 communities in 14 states have already passed Tobacco 21 laws.

Please send a message to your Members of Congress today and ask them to cosponsor the Tobacco to 21 Act.

Help us make this a nationwide priority.
