This action is ONLY for residents of Charleston, W.V.
A bill was introduced that threatens the lives of cats in Charleston. Bill No. 7598 essentially mandates that all cats be kept indoors. With this deadly law in place, all feral cats and other outdoor cats “at large” would be subject to impoundment and could be killed.
The proposed law would also create a pet limit—no one could have more than three cats over the age of six months. Limit laws are dangerous for feral cat caregivers when they care for more cats than a person can “own.” Feral cat caregivers are not the cats’ owners and should not be punished for their volunteer work.
Instead, Charleston should simply support Trap-Neuter-Return. Trap-Neuter-Return ends the breeding cycle, halts mating behaviors like roaming and fighting, and improves the community’s relationship with outdoor cats.
Don’t let this deadly law threaten the lives of your community’s cats! Take action now.
This letter will be sent to members of the City of Charleston Ordinance and Rules Committee.
