Next week, the U.S. Senate is expected to consider legislation to repeal significant portions of the Affordable Care Act. They may even do so without offering a replacement plan, threatening the health coverage of tens of millions of Americans. Send a message today urging your senators to oppose this measure!
Dear [Decision Maker],
As a constituent and American Public Health Association advocate, I write in strong support of the Affordable Care Act and urge you to oppose any legislation to repeal the ACA a historic public health law. According to the Congressional Budget Office, repealing the ACA without a replacement would increase the number of uninsured people by 32 million and insurance premiums would double by 2026. Unfortunately, the replacement plans that have been put forward by Senate Republican leaders to date would still result in at least 22 million more uninsured by 2026, massive cuts to the Medicaid program, higher out-of-pocket costs and fewer benefits for many, especially low-income and older Americans. In addition, repealing the ACA would eliminate the Prevention and Public Health Fund, critical mandatory funding for public health and prevention activities.
