Continue negotiations on the disabilities treaty

The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is an international disabilities treaty that was inspired by the United States’ efforts to provide the opportunity for people with disabilities to pursue inclusive, healthy and productive lives. The U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee must continue to work together to resolve any remaining concerns to allow for the approval of the treaty.

Tell your senator that the public health community wants the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to continue negotiations on the treaty!

Continue negotiations on the disabilities treaty

Dear [Decision Maker],

As a constituent and American Public Health Association advocate, I write in support of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and urge you to continue negotiations to allow the U.S. to join the 139 other nations that have ratified this important human rights treaty. Recently, I was disheartened to hear that efforts to advance the CRPD in the U.S. Senate are at risk.

I urge you to continue to work with your Senate colleagues and the Obama administration to resolve any remaining concerns and swiftly approve the ratification of this important treaty.

Sincerely,
