As most of you know, I have late diagnosis ASD and have been working with both adults and children on the spectrum for many years now. It is a passion and a calling for me to be able to pursue this calling.
I've been privledged to work with some amazing families, kiddos and adults on the spectrum, along with health care providers that want to take the time to learn how to better serve their patients on the spectrum.
Ideally, many of those folks will sign up for this walk. It's a way that we can be by ourselves (you're welcome to wear headphones or walk with just your family) or connect to other people. Everyone at the walk is somehow personally touched by autism, so you will be in an environment where you're understood. It feels amazing.
This is something that people can do as a family. I say all the time that autism is a family "dis-ease" because it affects everyone involved. Let's all be on the same team and have an easy day together.
The walk is flat and go at your own pace.
If you're not local or able to join the team, please consider making a donation to the cause.
The Autism Society's website does not work well in Safari, nor is it well maintained. If you have any trouble please to reach out.
Many thanks,
Kara
