Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I’m excited to join Malcolm's Run for Alzheimer's. Here's a brief history of my experience with Alzheimer's and my relationship with Malcolm.
My Mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's somewhere in her early 80s. Shortly after her diagnosis we went for coffee in Kerrisdale, at our favourite coffee shop and she asked me, "Brad, should I tell people I have Alzheimer's?" She asked me this so innocently and childlike, and I was aware that the disease had already hurt her ability to understand what this meant. She lived another 8 years and died in 2016. She was a wonderful mom!
My friend, Malcolm was diagnosed with Young Onset Alzheimer's in his late 50s. He bravely lives with this disease. I am fortunate to spend time with Malcolm. We go out for bike or car rides and always end up at a coffee shop or restaurant. We have wonderful conversations. Malcolm is insightful, thoughtful and brave. We laugh together. He likes to laugh and he makes me laugh. Each time we're together Malcolm always affirms me and makes me feel good about myself.
Over this past year Malcolm has consistently raised the desire to run to Whistler to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer's. A group of us decided to come together and support Malcolm with this dream. We felt a run to Whistler was a little overwhelming and dangerous but have compromised with a 10 km run on the Delta Dyke. The run on the Delta Dyke will take place on September 25th and is in support of Malcolm's wonderful desire to give back, even while living with Alzheimer's. It is also in memory of my Mom.
Any financial support you are able to provide would be greatly appreciated.
