The Light We Hold Onto is an art photography exhibition and fundraiser in support of Alzheimer’s Awareness Month.
My name is Geoffrey Bird. I am an artist, writer, and educator currently working on my Masters degree in Photography.
My wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in February 2021.
The Light We Hold Onto—the final major project for my degree—explores memory, identity, and loss and grief associated with the presence of Alzheimer’s in the family. Photos from an archive representing 35 years of our relationship in slides, black and whites, prints, and digital images are used as projections in a series of portraits done in collaboration with my wife.
