Dear [Decision Maker],
I am writing to urge you to support H.R. 877, the "Patients First Act of 2009" which is sponsored by Rep. J. Randy Forbes (VA) and Rep. Daniel Lipinski (IL), and insist that it be given a vote on the House Floor. H.R. 877 promotes life-affirming and scientifically sound research by requiring the Secretary of Health and Human Services to conduct and support basic and applied research to develop techniques for the use of stem cell research that does not result in the creation of human embryos for research purposes or the destruction or injury of living human embryos. Such ethical stem cell research has been used to help patients suffering from over 70 diseases and injuries. I also urge you to oppose H.R. 4808, the "Stem Cell Research Advancement Act of 2009," which is sponsored by Rep. Diana DeGette (CO). H.R. 4808 requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to "conduct and support research that utilizes . . . human embryonic stem cells", with no provision for the safety of human embryos or prohibition on their destruction. In other words, while H.R. 877 promotes ethical and scientifically sound research, H.R. 4808 promotes the destruction of innocent human life.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP]
