The October Grey Fund for Animal Care supports the care of thousands of animals in our community branches across British Columbia.
This fund is named in honour of October Grey, a brave cat that was in our care with an instinct for survival. His former guardians abandoned him simply because they were moving homes. For the first time in his life, October Grey was alone and without shelter. In fear, he frantically sought refuge in a tree and became trapped and severely wounded.
Luckily, he was found and rescued by staff at the local BC SPCA branch. At the shelter he was given food, care, rehabilitation, toys, affection and a warm, safe place to stay. Sadly, October Grey lost his leg due to his injuries while abandoned. Thanks to the strength of his spirit, and the expert care from staff and volunteers, however, he recovered and is with a new family who adores and appreciates him.
The BC SPCA's branches and facilities help animals in need in their local communities. The highly-trained staff and volunteers house, feed, rehabilitate and socialize animals in their care each year to make sure each animal gets adopted into the right home. The branches have extensive volunteer foster programs to expand the number of animals they can care for. In addition, this fund supports the Drive for Lives Animal Transfer Program, Lost Animals Programs, and Satellite Adoption Centres to make sure that all animals find the homes they need. Supporting the October Grey Fund for Animal Care helps give these animals the care they need and ensure they are given the second chance they deserve.
