Please Tell Gov. Snyder Today to Veto SB 48
Having people interact with bear cubs is both cruel and dangerous. However, Michigan will allow that soon if state Senate Bill 48 is signed by Gov. Rick Snyder.
Please write to the governor today to urge him to veto this ill-advised bill.
SB 48 represents a step backward for Michigan, as it would weaken current laws and let bear cubs up to 36 weeks old be handled by the public. Exploited for "photo opportunities," the cubs would be confined to small cages, away from their mothers, and unable to escape the unwanted attention of people.
At 37 weeks, they likely would be sold to a roadside zoo or left to languish in a private menagerie.
Maintaining the ban on public contact with bear cubs is a smart decision for public safety and animal welfare. Please make your voice heard today.
