Stem cell donation eligibility & registration process

We are dedicated to recruiting healthy, committed volunteer donors for patients in need of a stem cell transplant. We coordinate searches across Canada, and around the world, to find matching stem cell donors for patients in need.

Am I eligible?

Great question! You may register to join Canadian Blood Services Stem Cell Registry if you are:

  • Between the age of 17 and 35.
  • In good general health.
  • Free of infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS or hepatitis B and C.
  • Free of health issues including cancer, blood diseases, insulin-dependent diabetes, certain heart conditions, etc.
  • Willing to be a donor to any patient in need.

Think you are eligible? Pledge to join the registry and complete the registration questionnaire to confirm your eligibility!

Pledge & register in just a few easy steps

After you complete your pledge and registration online, a buccal (cheek) swabbing kit will be mailed to you with instructions on how to complete your buccal swab sample. You will be contacted if further information is required. Also, once you’ve joined the stem cell registry, it’s very important that you let us know when your contact information changes. You can update your contact information any time by logging into your donor profile or by calling 1 888 2 DONATE (1.888.236.6283).
