Fundraising can be a lot of fun, especially if you do it right! Here are some tips to help you along.

Go it alone or form a team

Decide if you want to sign up as an individual and invite your friends to support you through a donation. Or you can invite your friends and colleagues to join you and start a team. Get creative when starting a team. You might want to ask family members, your book club members, your colleagues, or your neighbours.

Set a goal

If you register as an individual, your default goal is to raise $500, but feel free to make it your own! Setting a fundraising goal motivates you to keep going and lets all your supporters know you're working towards a specific amount. We will send you an email when you've reached your goal. And then you can consider raising it higher!

Make it personal

After registration, personalize your Walk In Her Shoes online fundraising page by adding photos, videos and updates so your supporters can share your journey. Let everyone know how much you are aiming to raise and why. If friends and family learn about your experience, they’re more likely to donate and more likely to tell others about it. You can also use the stories that we’ve provided in our “Why Walk" page to help your friends and family understand why this walk is so important.

Take it to work

Consider asking the company you work at to sponsor your Walk In Her Shoes challenge, or consider starting a corporate team (or teams!). Having more than one team at your company can lead to fun and healthy competition.

Bring it to school

Invite your school to start a team and walk together to raise funds for girls and women by walking 10,000 steps together.

Spread the word

Tell the world about the steps you’re taking to end poverty for millions of women and girls. The more people you tell, the more you can raise to help fight poverty. We’ve written a few emails for you to personalize and use to make it easy! Share CARE Canada’s social media posts about Walk In Her Shoes and tell your social networks why you’ve chosen to Walk In Her Shoes. Don’t forget the power of good old-fashioned face-to-face conversations though -- when people hear what you’re doing and why, they’ll be proud to support you.

Don't be shy to ask

Remember why you are Walking In Her Shoes: to help defend dignity and fight poverty. By helping girls and women, you are helping families and entire communities. You are asking for them.

Keep everyone posted

As Walk In Her Shoes approaches, send reminders to everyone you know asking them to support your challenge. Update supporters on your progress, so they feel involved and get behind you every step of the way.

Say thanks to your supporters and yourself

When someone makes a donation-say thank you! Your online fundraising page makes it easy to send thank-you messages, and it makes all those steps worthwhile! Your support will empower women and girls who will in turn empower their communities.
