Welcome to My Personal Page
Welcome to my Walk In Her Shoes 2020 page.
On Sunday March 8th, I will be walking 10,000 steps in solidarity with women and girls from developing countries who walk this distance – every day – to collect the things they need to survive like water, food, and firewood. All funds raised by this WALK IN HER SHOES challenge will be used to make a life-changing differences to women, girls and their families in Malawi.
The funds we raise are multiplied 10 times by the Government of Canada -- greatly magnifying the impact we can have.
This year the Walk will have special meaning for me because of an adventure I had this past summer to Malawi and to Tanzania. In Malawi, I travelled with six women volunteers to see CARE's work to empower women and girls and raise remote villages out of poverty. We saw first-hand how CARE partners with many local players to improve basics like sanitation, water, nutrition and cultivation as well as grow their economies through women-controlled savings and loan associations. CARE turns around the lives of these villagers for only $73 per family.
Inspired by the work in the villages, I then climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to raise funds for CARE. I'm delighted to say that I made it to the summit (at 19,350ft, the highest point in Africa) and raised over $925 -- enough to change the lives of over 100 women, girls and their families.
As they say in Malawi, "Zikomo" -- thank you for your support,
