GET HELP WITH QUITTING SMOKING IN 2017

Chews to quitIf you’re a smoker, the single best thing you can do to improve your health in the new year is to quit smoking.

It’s estimated that smoking is responsible for 30% of all cancer deaths in Canada and is related to more than 85% of lung cancer cases.

The more you smoke and the longer you smoke, the more you increase your risk of developing lung cancer.

In fact, any smoking at all may cause lung damage over time.

Quitting isn't easy but it's worth it. Within 10 years of quitting, an ex-smoker’s overall risk of dying from lung cancer is cut in half. And your risk of these cancers goes down: mouth, throat, larynx, esophagus, bladder, kidney, pancreas and cervix.

Through Smokers’ Helpine, Chews to Quit and the First Week Challenge Contest, you’ll find free services to help you quit successfully.

We also know that making quit attempts – trying and trying again – can get smokers to their goal of staying smoke-free for good.

We hope that getting a trial pack and discount coupon might be just the incentive smokers need to make the next quit attempt and to learn more about nicotine replacement therapy and the great free support Smokers’ Helpline has to offer.

First Week Challenge Contest

First Week Challenge ContestStarting in January, Saskatchewan residents can register for the First Week Challenge Contest.

For the first week of February, we’re challenging smokers to quit smoking for 7 days and get a chance to win $500.

Why is the first week so important? Because if you’re successful for the first week, you’re 9 times more likely to quit for good**.

We hope that this challenge will be the little extra nudge you need to turn the urge to quit into action, and we can provide tools and support to help.

And don’t worry – we know that in order to succeed sometimes you have to quit and quit again. The good news is there are more First Weeks in the year, each with a chance to win $500.

Do you know a friend or family member who smokes? Want to try and help him or her kick the addiction? Challenge a smoker to go tobacco-free for the first week of February and he or she could win $500.

During the challenge contest, call Smokers’ Helpine at 1-877-513-5333 for proven tips and tools and to work with a quit coach.
