Tell legislators: Say NO to AT&T

  • The Illinois Telecom Act is up for review in the 2017 legislative session. AT&T is pushing two bills (Senate Bill 1381 and House Bill 2691) that would kill traditional home phone service throughout its territory in Illinois.
  • Illinois has millions of residential and business landlines. While AT&T likes to argue that consumers have choices, for many people—including seniors, low-income families and rural residents—home phone service is the most reliable, affordable lifeline to vital services such as 911, home security systems and medical monitoring devices.
  • But AT&T, which made $13 billion in profits in 2016, wants the power to end traditional phone service and force customers to use computer-based or wireless substitutes. That could subject them to higher bills and unreliable service.
  • It’s one thing if a customer doesn’t want a landline—but people who depend on home phone service shouldn’t have that choice stripped away.

Please send a message to your state legislators urging them to SAY NO to AT&T!

Message:

Say NO to SB 1381/HB 2691

Dear Representative,

I urge you to say NO to AT&T's plans to kill traditional home phone service.

The Illinois Telecom Act is up for review in 2017, and AT&T is pushing two bills (SB 1381 and HB 2691) that would give it the power to end home phone service throughout its territory in Illinois.

AT&T likes to argue that consumers have choices, but for millions--including seniors, low-income families and rural residents--home phone service is their most reliable and affordable calling option. (It's a vital link to important services, such as 911, home security systems and medical monitoring devices.) Unfortunately, AT&T wants to push customers onto service that can be less reliable and more expensive--like cellphones or Internet phone service.

It's one thing if a customer doesn't want a landline anymore--but people who depend on home phone service shouldn't have that choice stripped away. Please stand up for consumers and say NO to AT&T.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]
