Urge IL Officials: Stop the Record-Setting Electric Increase!

  • Breaking: A new ruling by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) will slam Northern Illinoisans with what could be the largest electric increase in state history (up to $864 milllion a year)—unless the General Assembly and Gov. Pritzker act now. (Read CUB's Q&A for more background.)
  • The FERC ruling, released on Dec. 19, revamps electricity market rules, forcing most electric customers to pay extra money to dirty natural gas and coal plants. It also hinders our efforts to secure 100% clean, affordable energy across the state.
  • That's why CUB is urging Illinois to pass the Clean Energy Jobs Act (CEJA), the most consumer-friendly energy bill in Springfield. CEJA would reform the electricity market and protect Northern Illinois consumers from this electric increase. (It mandates cost-savings for those electric customers.)
  • CEJA also has statewide benefits, ramping up renewable energy production across Illinois, while keeping a lid on electric bills. It aims to secure clean, affordable energy for everyone.
  • This is urgent: Unless Illinois acts soon, these higher bills will be locked in.

Dirty power generators and their friends in Washington want to kill CEJA and make us pay more for dirty power we don't need. We urgently need your help now.
