Mr. President, don't make us pay for failing power plants

CUB is asking all electric customers to take action to stop a bailout for coal-fired power plants that could raise electricity costs by billions of dollars across the country.

  • Claiming a potential grid emergency, the Trump Administration is considering intervening in the nation’s energy markets to bail out old, struggling coal-fired power plants. (It may use a 68-year-old law created during the Cold War that gives the president the power to take over a private industry to ensure the U.S. has resources in times of war or disaster.).

  • The plan could effectively nationalize parts of the power sector—a drastic, unprecedented move.  Think of it: We could be forced to pay billions of dollars more to prop up failing power plants we don’t need.

  • A "grid emergency" doesn't  exist. There’s plenty of power available through cheaper and cleaner sources of energy. Plus, energy efficiency programs are flourishing in Illinois. You already pay for electricity you use. Now, Washington bureaucrats want to make you pay for power you DON'T use.

Please send a message to the president today!
