Don't let Nicor break 'no rate hikes' pledge

  • Before getting state approval for a $2.5 billion deal to buy Nicor Gas in 2011, Atlanta-based AGL Resources pledged that it would not raise delivery rates through 2014.

  • However, Crain’s Chicago Business reports that the company may try to maneuver for “structural changes” that would leave customers paying more, despite the promise to freeze rates. AGL Resources made more than $270 million in 2012—a 57 percent increase over 2011 profits.

  • Any rate change would require Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) approval. Please use CUB’s Action Network to tell the ICC to block any attempt by Nicor to break its promise.
