Don't let solar suffer in Illinois

After reading this background, send a message to your state legislators asking them to support solar in Illinois:
• In 2007, the state of Illinois passed a Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) law, which requires that 25 percent of electricity come from renewable energy by 2025.
• As part of the law, Alternative Retail Electric Suppliers—power suppliers that have entered the state to compete with ComEd and Ameren—are required to feed money into a fund designed to support renewable energy in Illinois.
• The Illinois Power Agency (IPA), the agency that manages electricity supply in the state, is supposed to use that money to buy solar power from residences and small businesses that are generating it. (These are homes and businesses with solar panels installed on their property.)
• Unfortunately, due to a flaw in the law, the IPA was not given the authority it needs to effectively spend the funds it receives from the suppliers. So, amazingly, the fund, which is expected to balloon to nearly $140 million by September, sits unused.
Please use CUB's Action Network now to ask your state legislators to tweak state law and fix the Renewable Portfolio Standard.

Please, stand up for small-businesses and families in Illinois. Fix the Renewable Portfolio Standard!
