Tell the White House: Don't impose harmful tariffs!

  • The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) says a pending decision by the White House could be “intensely harmful” to the solar industry in the United States.
  • Two bankrupt solar panel manufacturers, Suniva and SolarWorld, want the White House to impose tariffs that could jack up the price of solar panels imported to the United States. In its recommendations, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) did not go as far as the two companies wanted, but still proposed tariffs as high as 35% on panels. Now it’s the President’s decision.
  • The two bankrupt companies are but a fraction of the U.S. solar industry. Since about 90% of panels are imported, tariffs could stall or kill the growth of solar projects that help stabilize the power grid and lower electricity prices. And a slow-down in what had been a flourishing solar industry could lead to significant job losses.
  • President Trump now has 60 days to make a decision. He does not have to follow the recommendations of the ITC — and he could even impose higher tariffs.

Please urge the White House: Don't impose tariffs that will cripple the solar industry.

Representatives:

  • President Donald J. Trump
