Dear Senator,

Here's something that we all agree on: There must be no more Kermit Gosnells. His horrific actions were completely outside the law. There are two things you can do now to protect women's health: oppose Senator Lindsey Graham's proposed ban on abortion after 20 weeks (S. 1670) and support the Women's Health Protection Act (s. 1696).

The Women's Health Protection Act would defend women's access to safe, legal, high-quality care when they seek to end a pregnancy, while legislative attacks, like S. 1670, serve only to close the doors of caring, experienced, and reputable health care providers. Women in desperate circumstances will be driven to unscrupulous, unsafe, unregulated back-alley providers whose shady practices may very well threaten their lives.

Currently 33 Senators  have co-sponsored The Women's Health Protection - alongside an additional 111 members of the House. It is designed to enforce and protect access to safe, legal abortion care for all women in the U.S. under a framework of limits and regulations supported by 7 in 10 Americans - those recognized in Roe v. Wade and upheld by the Supreme Court time and again. It is an important step toward strengthening policies that would truly protect women from dangerous providers like Gosnell.

Sen. Graham's bill would do the opposite.

We don't need to guess about the brutal consequences of such restrictive and extreme bans on abortion. We know from our own history 40 years ago that women desperate enough to end a pregnancy will find ways to do so--whether it is safe and legal, or not.

The Senate should be in the business of protecting the health and rights of Americans, not passing laws that intrude upon their personal, private decisions and endanger their health, families and futures.

So please take action to protect women's health and rights by supporting the Women's Health Protection Act and speaking out against Senator Graham's dangerous 20-week ban.
