Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to participate?

All working professionals - employers, employees, business owners and entrepreneurs are all welcome.

What is expected of participants?

Participants are challenged to raise $4,000 in critical funds and awareness for Covenant House in support of youth experiencing homelessness.

All participants are required to fundraise. Fundraising is made easy by way of a personal fundraising page that includes email templates and tools to reach out to supporters.

We expect participants will approach the event with an open heart, an open mind, and a willingness to work hard for something outside of their comfort zone. On event night, we hope participants will show up (virtually), ready for an experience they will not soon forget.

What if I have never fundraised before?

From the moment you register, the Sleep Out team is available to help you. Visit our Fundraising Toolkit and Social Media Guide for content, images and ideas to help kickstart your fundraising. In the weeks leading up to the event, you will also receive emails with fundraising tips, copy-and-paste content and information to help you reach out to your networks for support.

What are participants fundraising in support of?

All funds raised for Sleep Out: Professionals Edition will go directly towards the mental health and addictions programs at Covenant House Vancouver. 39% of the young people who come to Covenant House Vancouver suffer with a formal mental health diagnosis and 50% struggle with addictions.

What will the Sleep Out look like?

The safety of our participants, youth, staff, and volunteers is our first and foremost concern during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On February 25th (event night), participants will join our live, interactive event via Zoom from wherever they are. It is the responsibility of each participant to find a safe (and legal) place to Sleep Out, this could be in the participant's living room, balcony, backyard, driveway, or even office (while respecting any government mandated COVID-19 related restrictions in place at the time.)

How can people donate?

The best way to make donations is online.

Each participant will have their own online fundraising page where they can direct their supporters to make a donation. The online system makes collecting donations easy, receipting instantaneous, goal tracking automatic, and minimizes administration costs for Covenant House.

Cash or cheque donations can be sent to:
Covenant House Vancouver
ATTN: Sleep Out Vancouver
RE: Sleep Out
1302 Seymour Street
Vancouver BC V6B 3P3

Cheques should be made payable to Covenant House Vancouver and include a note with the name of the Sleep Out participant.

How will people who donate receive their tax receipts?

Tax receipts for online gifts are automatically and instantly be sent to the donor by email. Cash and cheque donations will be receipted and mailed to the donor within 4 weeks of the gift being received by Covenant House Vancouver.
