A mother's message
If you have had the chance to meet Caden, you have probably witnessed his hard working attitude. Caden sets the bar high for himself and always finds a way to reach his goal. This attitude is what carries him through life and the reason that I am so optimistic about his future. I am always in awe of his strength and determination to take life's challenges head on.
Last year we set a goal of raising $10,000 for CMT. Caden would ask me daily about our total and he wasn't surprised when we crushed our goal and raised over $14,000 because he is used to crushing the goals that he sets for himself.
Caden recently completed kindergarten. He had the most amazing teachers again and learned a ton. His favorite subject by far is math because he enjoys the challenge. We have been blessed with teachers that not only go above and beyond to support him but advocate for him as well.
In addition to his love for math, Caden LOVES sports. If I had a dollar for every time I say "Caden, put the ball down", I think we would already surpass the $14,000 that we raised last year! :) This year he played baseball, flag football, basketball, and Taekwondo. He is so passionate about sports and dreams of one day playing in the big leagues.
Caden has his "15 minutes of fame" when he was featured in the Winter issue of the CMTA report. This exposure would not have been possible without the support of Caden's Crew. With over 100 registered members in 2023, we were the largest team in the country. In true Caden fashion, he wants to exceed that goal this year.
As hard as Caden tries, unfortunately we can not prevent the progression of this disease. Sadly we have seen a significant progression in his hands this year. Because of this, Caden is scheduled for his first surgery in November which has been a tough pill for us all to swallow. I feel like we are in a constant race against time which is why we are proactive in doing our part in helping researchers find a potential treatment in the future. With your support we are able to create more awareness of the disease as well as funding for research and a potential treatment in the future.
We are so fortunate that Caden has such an amazing crew to support him. Words can't describe the feeling of seeing all of the orange shirts at the walk. We certainly feel the love for our little guy and family. Thank you for being part of "Caden's Crew" and helping us to work towards a brighter future for Caden.
We would love for you to join us at the walk on Saturday, September 21st at 9 am. The walk will once again be held at the Somerset Patriots baseball stadium.
We hope to see you there!
Kara
To people with CMT, STAR research for a cure means regaining feeling in the extremities, walking without tripping, buttoning shirts, and easily picking up change off a flat surface. STAR is synonymous with stopping the progression of CMT and living a life without limitations.
