Fun fact: I participated in Pedal 4 Possible while I was an intern at Craig Hospital. Fast forward 4 years later and I am proud to call myself a full time speech-language pathologist at Craig.
I can remember how I felt that summer, both during the week while I learned all I could about traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries and on the weekends while I rode my bike to prepare for this event. I left the hospital every day feeling full of information and inspiration and used long rides on the weekends to train my body for the event and reset myself each week.
Of course, summer and my internship eventually came to an end and life brought me back to Los Angeles. When looking for my first job out of grad school, I remember yearning for work that would offer me the progress and impact I saw in my patients each day at Craig. Little did I know that life would eventually bring me back to that same place 4 years later.
If you are able to support this cause, know that your impact is two-fold. Not only will you be supporting patients, their families, and a hospital that makes their recovery possible, but also my passion for my job, the joy that comes from riding my bike, and my ability to apply my expertise in a way that makes my patients’ lives better.
