Paying it forward
I signed up to do the Pedal 4 Possible charity bike ride this September.
This event raises money for current and former patients of Craig Hospital. Craig Hospital is one of the premier brain and spine hospitals in the country and a large number of their patients have varying degrees of paralysis or impairment. The money raised by this event helps them to buy adaptive equipment such as hand-powered bicycles, ski chairs, the kinds of specialized tools that they need to continue to enjoy an active life.
This will be my 6th time doing this event. The first two were in honor of our departed friend Leonard Somers (himself a long-time patient of Craig Hospital after a skiing accident left him paralyzed from mid-chest down), while subsequent rides have been for Leonard and for Patrice and I. Craig Hospital took excellent care of me when I was injured in 2017 and made it possible for me to continue to do this ride.
I've set a goal of raising $500 for this worthy cause. The entrance fee that the riders pay covers the expense of putting on the event, so every dime that is donated goes to the people that benefit from this charity. Please help us reach this goal and make it possible for the beneficiaries to get out and enjoy the outdoors again.
