Welcome to My Personal Page
Craig Hospital has a special place in my heart, showing those who suffer life changing spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries that a great fulfilling life is still possible. I certainly took that away after my 9 weeks spent there. I met some amazing people who do more with paralysis than many able body people do with their lives.
The therapeutic recreation department and culture of care programs that pedal for possible raises money for is one of the most crucial aspects of understanding just how much life can still be lived. While I was in-patient I rode my first hand-cycle, learned techniques for setting up an accessible vegetable garden, learned how to drive with hand controls, and went to the airport to learn what flying would be like. I took 22 flights my second year out of Craig, and felt very comfortable on my first one from my trip there with Craig.
After I graduated from Craig, their outpatient programs allowed me to go to Crested Butte for a week to learn how to sit-ski (I am not very good, it is really hard!), flew around Denver in a single engine Cessna, tried accessible golf, got my own off-road handcycle, and had help from community reintegration getting back to work full time (a blessing and a curse!).
Many of these things wouldn't be possible without the culture of care programs Craig offers, and I ask for your support and contributions to help those like myself who experience a life changing experience get back to doing activities they love.
