Riding for Sheila
On January 27th, 2019, while driving into Red Rock Canyon (Las Vegas), to meet friends for our weekly mountain bike ride, Sheila and I were involved in a serious automobile accident. Sheila suffered a severe traumatic brain injury. Sheila spent over seven months in Hospital and continues to recover from her injury.
Through our journey, we were fortunate enough to find ourselves at Craig Hospital. Craig is a specialty hospital that focuses on rehabilitation of traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries. The doctors, therapists and staff of Craig do amazing things rebuilding the lives of their patients, and families.
One of the most important aspects of Sheila's rehabilitation at Craig was the Recreational Therapy Department. Craig's Therapeutic Recreation sets the standard for hospital rehabilitation recreation programs in the nation. Certified therapists introduce, or re-expose, patient to the sports, recreation or leisure time instersts to advance individual treatment. I believe getting her out on the bike during her recreation therapy sessions helped her make great strides towards recovering.
With our love of cycling, I had to form a team to represent Sheila at Craig's annual charity bike ride, Pedal 4 Possible. Pedal 4 Possible raises money for the Craig Foundation, which supports many of the therapy activities at Craig, provides free on campus housing for family and, most importantly, adaptive cycling programs and outings.
Please support our team and the Craig Foundation.
The Craig Foundation is a a 501(c)(3)not-for-profit [EIN 23-7352287] organization.
