Welcome to Joel H-P's P4P Page
After about a year of living in Colorado, I met Lauren through a mutual friend. The night we met, she invited my goofy friends and I to split a ski house with her and her friends a couple weeks later. That trip was awesome. Her mom wasn’t very amused when I told her this a couple years ago. Ever since that first ski trip, but really the first night we met, Lauren welcomed my friends and I with open arms and made us feel truly at home in Colorado. I’m so grateful to Lauren for being so welcoming, I know I’ll never be able to repay her. But I can try.
A little over three and a half years ago, Lauren was in a car accident and she suffered a traumatic brain injury. There was a possibility she wouldn’t be able to walk, snowboard, or bike again. Through lots of pain, resilience, support, and hard, hard work, she persevered. Because of her great strength and support, Lauren is able to walk, snowboard, and bike again. I would call it a miracle, but that would disparage Lauren’s incredible spirit and drive, and the great support she has. A large piece of her support came from Craig Hospital. Craig is one of the world’s best hospitals for people rehabilitating brain or spinal cord injuries, right here in Denver.
Tomorrow is the 2021 Craig Hospital Pedal 4 Possible, a bike ride fundraiser supporting Craig Hospital patients and programs. Maggie and I are very excited to ride with Lauren and her team in the event, and be a part of her newest goal in a very long list of goals she has crushed over the last three and a half years. One of the many amazing benefits Craig patients can receive from the funds raised by P4P are grants to cover programs not covered by insurance. Lauren was awarded grants to subsidize the cost of her recumbent adaptive trike, Tina, she’s riding in the photo.
