Eye to Eye
Eye to Eye
Join me in helping someone walk again.
Seventeen years ago I fell 35 feet from a ladder. After the thought of “is Mike okay?” (the guy behind me on the ladder), I realized that I was in a lot of pain. A good thing I figured – I felt pain.
After two major surgeries to put my leg and foot back together, I spent four months recovering in a hospital bed. Then I learned what it was like to spend part of my life in a wheelchair. But I knew that I was fortunate that I would walk again.
This October, 40 years after my first fundraising effort to support the American Diabetes Association, I am going to complete the first Titanium Man triathlon on the Big Island of Hawaii. I will swim 2.5 miles, bike 120, and complete 27.5 miles jogging, limping, walking (and maybe even crawling!) to raise money to purchase two ReWalk exoskeletons so that two people can rise from their wheelchairs and walk again.
My wife Tori and I are covering all fees associated with the tri, so 100% of your donations will go directly to help patients at Craig Hospital*. Each ReWalk costs approximately $75,000 and I hope that we, together, can raise enough to gift two to patients in need. Any money that falls outside of the scope of a ReWalk will be used to purchase other vital equipment that is not covered by insurance. For example, if we raise $85,000, $75,000 will buy a ReWalk and $10,000 will go toward other equipment.
I urge you to get involved today! We have until December 31, 2017 to raise the money and I know that, together, we can improve life quality for two people living with spinal cord injuries.
There are no awards for finishing Titanium Man Triathlon other than supporting a great cause! One day I hope to participate in the Hawaiian Ironman, but this year, I want to finish strong both in the competition and this fundraising effort so that two more people can stand!
Please join me in this journey. Take the time to check out http://rewalk.com/ and look through the testimonials. They'll show you how this device can improve the quality of their life.
