DCI's Mission

The Duke Cancer Institute will transform cancer care through innovative research, seamless integration of academic and clinical missions, and compassionate care with hope, healing, and cure.

Leading-edge cancer care and research have been a hallmark of Duke Medicine for nearly 40 years. Today, the Duke Cancer Institute continues to build on its national and global reputation as one of the foremost centers for cancer diagnosis, treatment, research, education, and training.

The Duke Cancer Institute provides specialized care to patients, treating every cancer type, with 100 oncology-dedicated, board-certified physicians and 500 clinical staff -- nurses, social workers, nutritionists, and others -- dedicated to cancer.

Since 1993, Duke has ranked among the top centers in the nation for cancer services according to U.S.News & World Report and leader in the southeast.

The Duke Cancer Institute is a single entity -- the first of its kind at Duke -- that brings cancer care and research even closer together. By uniting cancer physicians, researchers, educators, and staff across the medical center, medical school, and health system, the DCI offers unprecedented opportunities for teamwork among the scientists in our labs and caregivers in our hospitals and clinics.
