The "Unremarkables" are back!
Mr. Anthony Coles
John & Jill
Hello again, Family and Friends of the Unremarkables!
In August, 2016, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma, a terminal brain tumor. More than half of the Glioblastoma patients lose their battles within the first 14 months of diagnosis. With God's help, the wonderful care I've been receiving at Duke, the love and support of my family and friends, and perhaps a touch of stubbornness, I am still here more than two and a half years later! And I am thrilled to be Team Captain of the "Unremarkables" once again this April 27th at the "Angels Among Us" fight against brain tumors at Duke.
(Why the "Unremarkables?" Well, as I would receive my regular MRI reports, the Radiologist's findings would note that my tests were 'unremarkable,' meaning without areas of concern. Although it seems like a backwards compliment, Unremarkable became my favorite word, as test after test continued to be unremarkable for almost 15 months. We are now attacking the tumor with some new treatments. In the meantime, my very remarkable family and friends have given us such amazing support that we couldn't find a better team name, or higher compliment, than to call ourselves the UNREMARKABLES!)
So, I accept the challenge of participating in Angels Among Us 5K Run & Family Fun Walk again this year.
The funds raised at this event will support cutting-edge brain tumor research. At Duke, ground-breaking lab research is translated into treatments for patients more quickly than anywhere else. Your gift will give Duke's investigators the resources needed to push their research efforts at a much faster rate.
