Get Better Every Day
After losing an uncle and my father to brain cancer in 2017, I decided last year to take part in the Angels Among Us 5k through the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke. We had hoped to bring my father down to Duke for a research study, but by the time he was eligible he was too weak and would not have been able to come down for the study. I was unable to make it to Durham for the event last year, but I signed up as an “absent angel” and ran a 5k in Bexley, Ohio. I had not run in almost 20 years and only decided to do the race about 8 weeks prior to the event. I was able to raise over $5,000 last year and I completed the run 26:25. To say I felt accomplished after this would be an understatement.
This year the event takes place on Saturday, April 27th in Durham. I will be coming down to participate and have created a team, “Get Better Every Day” (the motto my dad took on when he was first diagnosed in 2016) to try and get others involved in a cause that means a lot to me. I look forward to seeing you on April 27th.
