Keeping the Faith/In loving memory of Don Kramer
It is time again for the Duke University Angels Among Us 5K Run/Walk for brain cancer. This year's event will be on Saturday, April 28. This date is significant because on April 28, 2011, Don's journey with a GBM began with a seizure at work. Exactly a year later on April 28, 2012, Don ran/walked the Louisville Mini Marathon with three of his dear friends. Quite an amazing undertaking considering everything he had been through the past year. To see him cross the finish line with his hands held in the air, was a moment I will never forget. After a brave fight of 19 months, he went home to the Lord on November 29, 2012.
Angels Among Us is a beautiful event that allows us to come alongside those who continue their fight with brain cancer, have been newly diagnosed, are caring for a loved one, or run in a loved one's memory. It is an emotional day to say the least, but mainly it is a day of hope and healing.
Your prayers, donations and participation are wonderful ways to be a part of this memorable and important day. It is a beautiful day of community, remembrance and hope. I found a lovely garden where I pray before the event. Please let me know of any prayer requests you might have. I know we all have been affected by cancer in one way or another. My prayers continue long after that day.
Our verse for Don - 2 Timothy 4:6-8 ". . . the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day - and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing."
