Mast Over Matter
We're back for Year 2! Hope you can join us again!
As you most of you know, in the summer of 2017, Chris was diagnosed with glioblastoma. He underwent brain surgery in July 2017 at the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke and has been stable and off treatment since January 2019. He’s doing well and taking things in stride with his wry sense of humor. Running has been a great motivator for him—it has kept him focused and feeling challenged. He ran 2 marathons last year, and will run the Boston Marathon on April 15.
For the past 25 years, Duke has sponsored an annual Angels Among Us 5K and Family Fun Walk, dedicated to Brain Cancer patients. This year, it will be held in Durham on the morning of Saturday, April 27. Last year we had more than 100 family members and friends come out to surprise Chris for the race weekend. It was an amazing show of love and support. Chris was moved to tears the whole weekend. We would love to continue this tradition and make the race an annual event to celebrate Chris and to raise funds for brain cancer research.
We hope you can join us to be part of Team “Mast over Matter.” ('Mind over Matter" is something he tells our kids ad nauseam, much to their chagrin, when they are facing something challenging.) Please don’t feel like you have to run to be part of the weekend. There’s an option to walk; or if you just want to come out and cheer on the team, that would be great.
Chris knows that we’ll be running the race this year, but we may still have some surprises up our sleeves: stay tuned for news about a team t-shirt and post-race plans, as well as race logistics. If you have questions in the meantime, please let me (email@example.com), Suzanne (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Dana (email@example.com) know.
Thank you for your support!
