Welcome to my team, TEAM TEAL CASTLE. I have been fighting this disease since 2013, through 3 surgeries, 11 weeks of radiation, and countless hours in the car traveling back and forth to Duke. It has taught me how to let go of the little things (mostly), live in the moment, value people above things, and never give up hope.
I have participated in the Gail Parkins Memorial Ovarian Cancer Walk & 5K Run, every year since my diagnosis by running (my first 5K!), walking, spreading awareness, and donating funds. I have a rare form of Ovarian Cancer, (sex cord stromal tumor with annular tubules or SCTAT) making research extra important to me. All funds go directly to Duke for Ovarian Cancer Research. Ya'll, they are changing lives!
I would love to have you join me during the Walk 10:30 or if you are up for it, we also have a group registered for the run that starts at 8:30 am.
Register or DONATE at www.ovarianawareness.org
Thank you so much for considering donations to this important cause. Ovarian Cancer research has been underfunded and early detection is difficult because there are no effective early sceenings and symptoms can be vague. Most cases are detected well into Stage 3C where the survival rates drop to 38%.
Shout out to my FAMILY, who is always by my side, my FRIENDS, who never treat me like a cancer victim and my amazing DUKE MEDICAL TEAM.
