CARA 2.0

The Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) 2.0 has been introduced in the Senate. The bill proposes an additional $1 billion in funding for critical programs in addition to providing a 3-day limit on opioid prescriptions for acute pain. We support adding a provision to CARA that would create a dedicated funding stream for family support programs throughout the United States. We know that family support programs and services, which are so vital when seeking recovery from addiction, are in short supply due to lack of funding. Please encourage your Senators to cosponsor CARA 2.0 with the inclusion of early intervention resources for families.

Co-sponsor the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) 2.0 !

Dear [Decision Maker],

I write to strongly urge you to co-sponsor CARA 2.0, a bill to reauthorize and expand the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act of 2016.

Every day in the United States, 174 people die from a drug overdose. In 2016, that meant that more Americans died from overdose than in the entire Vietnam War. Families and communities are in desperate need of resources to combat the current opioid epidemic.

The comprehensive approach to addressing this crisis, which was established in CARA, moves us closer to treating addiction like a disease through evidence-based practices such as medication-assisted treatment. CARA 2.0 effectively eliminates limits on buprenorphine prescriptions, allowing more access to medication assisted treatment. The bill also places a 3-day limit on opioid prescriptions for acute pain.

While CARA 2.0 proposes necessary programs to help combat the opioid epidemic, we are still in need of critical family support services. We ask that you co-sponsor this legislation with the inclusion of language for early intervention resources for families. We know that those who have family support have much better outcomes of recovery.

Thank you for your support of CARA 2.0 and the families impacted by this disease throughout the country.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]
