Welcome to the my personal page
This year I will be celebrating the 40th Anniversary of my first Cancer Diagnosis by participating in the 40th Annual Prouty, held June 1 through July 10, 2021.
I need your support!
We do not yet know if we will be able to have any live events this year but we are making plans for that as well as another exciting virtual event. Either way we are determined to make the 40th spectacular.
The Prouty 40th coincides with my first Cancer Diagnosis 40 years ago. I was diagnosed while working on Star Island, the Isles of Shoals very near the end of the summer of 1981. I had surgery in the middle of September that year and then treatments at Norris Cotton Cancer Center until the end of November. I was given a 60% chance of survival. Today with research advances that same Cancer would have a 90% chance of survival. Back then the computer to run the Radiation Treatment I received was the size of a room, now that radiation is delivered via a laptop. 40 years ago that radiation was very widely distributed affecting healthy as well as cancerous tissue often damaging the healthy tissue, today it is pinpoint accurate. With recent advances at Norris Cotton Cancer Center that delivery can now be photographed as it is being distributed to ensure no healthy tissue is being damaged.
As you may know Cancer has touched our family in significant ways with some great successes but too many lost family and friends. Last year I created a list of people we know who have had Cancer and quickly the list grew to over 40 people.
Covid has greatly effected this disease also, with Hospitals closed for many months this past spring too many colonoscopies, mammograms and other tests were not performed and when they were able to get testing started again many diagnosis showed Cancer diagnosis much further along. The need for what we do through the Prouty is greater than ever. Even during Covid we came close to meeting our objective last year and this year have raised our Goal to 4,000,000.00. We again have a great Match going with a 1:1 match for any donation over $250.00 and a 2:1 match for any donation over $1,000.00.
Research at Norris Cotton Cancer Center has been used to help in the fight for Covid.
Funds raised help fuel significant life-saving cancer research and meaningful patient and family supportive services at Dartmouth and Dartmouth-Hitchcock's Norris Cotton Cancer Center, one of only 51 comprehensive cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute and the only one that is rurally based giving Cancer a very different perspective than in the big city centers. The research performed at NCCC is world renowned.
Here is you can help make a difference in the fight against cancer:
- Make a donation today to help me reach my fundraising goal. Click the donate button to support my efforts in the 2021 Prouty.
Your support of The Prouty will help fund researchers and clinicians who are working on innovative ways to prevent, diagnose, treat and hopefully, one day, cure cancer. You will also help provide important patient and family supportive services that would otherwise not be funded such as support groups, massage, writing, and arts therapy programs. Last year over 22,000 instances of patient and family supportive services were provided free of charge because of your donations.
Together we will end cancer. Thank you for your support!
I am registered for the Prouty Bike in 2021.
