2019 Prouty Appeal
This year I am entering my 14th Prouty, and will be attempting to complete my 11th Ultimate, which is the back-to-back double century ride. Although my cycling time is no longer improving, this event only grows in its significance to me.
The Prouty connects me to my past as I remember my mom and other loved ones lost to cancer. It connects me to the present as I am joined on the road by survivors who are biking, rowing, walking, and golfing. Their presence is heartening and makes me realize that significant progress is being made treating this disease. And, I am connected to a hopeful future as the event funds research which brings us ever closer to a cure.
I am a part of a new a new team this year - Dartmouth Without Borders. This team is captained by Dr. Mary Chamberlin who is an oncologist at Norris Cotton Cancer Center and a cyclist extraordinaire. Mary is a part of a global health initiative at Dartmouth that is working on cancer education and training in low resource countries. Mary hopes to use this team to raise awareness about the rising global burden of cancer in order to expand existing global health programs in Rwanda, Honduras, Kosovo, Tanzania, and Peru to include more oncology specific training and education collaborations. In addition, this team hopes to raise significant money for Norris Cotton Cancer Center for cancer care at home.
And finally, please consider entering the event and joining our team! It is rewarding on so many levels and the Prouty website makes it easy. You can also learn more about the great work that Norris Cotton Cancer Center does, how your donation to this year's Prouty will be put to work and to sign up at www.theprouty.org. If you do register, please send a solicitation my way! :)
