Welcome to the my personal page for The Prouty 2019
This year I will be participating in the 38th Annual Prouty, held on July 12 & 13, 2019, in Hanover, New Hampshire.
This will be my fourth Prouty and I am setting a goal to complete the 100 mile century ride on July 13, 2019. My wife (Mary) and I did our first Prouty in 2016, just months after after I had completed my last radiation treatments for stage 4 lymphoma. The cancer had left me with 2 serious compression fractures of my L1 & L2 vertebrae and I was in a very weakened state from all of my cancer treatments. When I picked up my bib # for the 50 mile ride that day I was also given a bib that simply stated "Survivor". It was at that moment that I realized I had indeed "survived" cancer and I that was on the long road to recovery. We have participated in The Prouty each year since and we have been overwhelmed by the generous financial support that we have been given by our family and friends. I am now back to skiing daily and teaching skiing at Bretton Woods which has been a longstanding passion of mine. I still have some physical challenges that have developed from the cancer and cancer treatment but it is getting better and I am feeling stronger.
I feel as though I owe my life to the Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Dartmouth and the amazing staff there.
Money raised from The Prouty event helps to fund cancer research and patient supportive services at Dartmouth's Norris Cotton Cancer Center, one of only 49 comprehensive cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute. Supporting The Prouty means supporting researchers and clinicians who are working on innovative ways to prevent, diagnose, treat and hopefully, one day, cure cancer. You’re also supporting important patient supportive services that would otherwise not be funded such as support groups, massage, writing and arts therapy programs. Over 90% of your donations go directly to these services.
